Take Home Treatment
It is recommended that the patient's impressions for whitening trays be taken at the consultation appointment to prevent extending the time of the whitening appointment. The contrastpm® take home treatment should be dispensed at the final follow up appointment, approximately 48 hours after the whitening appointment. At that time the effect of the contrastamT in-office whitening treatment will be complete. |
| Note: Please refer to the contrastpm® dentist and laboratory instruction manual for directions on the fabrication of custom-fitted whitening trays. | | ContrastamT Whitening Gel Prep Instructions
To ensure proper shelf life, refrigerate the contrastamT whitening gel while stored. Prior to use, the material must be warmed to working temperature, equal to average room temperature, or above 65ºF. Either remove the syringe of gel from refrigeration the evening prior to the treatment to allow the gel to warm overnight (at least 6 hours), or place the syringe in a cup of hot tap water (120ºF / 49ºC) for 10 minutes, wait an additional 5 minutes before use. Do not use water from hot water dispensers. |
Shade Documentation
Determine the starting shade by utilizing a Vitapan® Classical Shade Guide*, or other documenting source. For most accurate shade match, be sure to organize the shade guide in the chromatic order.
The following is the chromatic order recommended by Vita® for their classical shade guide.
B1, A1, B2, D2, A2, C1, C2, D4, A3, D3, B3, A3.5, B4, C3, A4, C4 |

The Vitapan® Shade Guide |
. Take "before" and "after" photographs. It is best to include the shade tab in the photograph
. If necessary, pumice teeth with pure pumice powder and water or hydrogen peroxide to ensure removal of loose surface particles
. Apply moisturizing material to lips. Petroleum jelly can be used, unless otherwise noted by the manufacturer of the light, used with this treatment
. Provide proper retraction and isolation by inserting the FastTrakT Tongue & Cheek Retractor. If the lips continue to extend near the tooth surface, use 2" x 2" gauze squares for additional retraction . Place one piece of 2" x 2" gauze inside the lower vestibule, extending out over the lower lip, and a second over the tongue. If the patient salivates heavily, the gauze will help to absorb the moisture, and protect the patient from coming in contact with the whitening gel from a "wandering tongue"
. Place proper eye protection on patient, based on the light source used in this procedure.
